How to DIGITAL Coupon at Dollar General

For years, I have loved the $5 off $25 purchase coupons at Dollar General.  Dollar General is a great place for inexpensive items, and that coupon has helped me get some super bargains over the years.

Now that Dollar General has an app where you can load coupons to your account, there are so many more savings opportunities!

It seems that most Saturdays you can download a $5 off $25 coupon right in the app.  The wonderful thing about this coupon is the discount is taken BEFORE coupons apply.  (A few stores may do it differently, but my stores take it from pre-coupon discounts).  So in theory, I can make sure I buy items using coupons.  The original pre-coupon price only needs to hit $25 for the $5 off $25 coupon to be deducted.  The $5 off $25 coupon also works on sale and clearance items.

During the week, they have "Wow Wednesday" which offers a great coupon.  Sometimes that is a free item, a buy one get one free item, a discount if you spend so much in store, or a huge savings off the original price of an item.

I rarely use paper coupons at Dollar General because I don't don't have access to many paper coupons.  However, if I did, I would be able to use both in the same transaction as long as I was buying multiple products.  For instance, if I had a digital and paper coupon for 25 cents off Palmolive, I would have to buy two of the Palmolive.  I could NOT use both at the same time.

The coupons that appear in the app are manufacture's coupons.  This is why some of them give such great discounts at Dollar General -- because their prices are low to begin with.  As an example, this week I purchased a twelve pack of soap for $1.50 after digital coupon.  Believe me, I would purchase as many of these as I could because that's a great deal.  But, digital coupons can only be used once.  I'm not complaining, though because I love my brand name soap I got for just over 10 cents a bar!

I add coupons both at home and in store.  Sometimes I don't realize what a savings something is until I get to the store, and I decide to add the coupon at that time.

Be very aware of other deals.  Recently they had a deal where if you purchased $15 of certain products, a $5 off your next purchase of $5.01 or more coupon would spit out at the register.  I combined digital coupons, and although $15 had to be spent AFTER all coupons were discounted, I was able to get more for my original $15.    Another deal they have been having lately is $3 off $15 if you do an online survey (and you are entered in a sweepstakes!)  That coupon cannot be combined with the $5 off $25 Saturday coupon, but it is good any day of the week.  Because I rarely go out of the house on Saturdays, the $3 off coupon is something I am more likely to use.

The best thing about Dollar General is they have basic stuff, like cleaning supplies.  Because of their low prices, even without coupons you can get more for your money there!

Also, don't forget that savings apps like iBotta, SavingStar, and Checkout51 allow you to use your purchases for cash back through their apps.  It's not uncommon to be able to MAKE money buying something at Dollar General once you use the app coupon from Dollar General and cash back from the savings apps.

  1. I am like you. I am not fond of Saturday shopping. Crowds, items tend to be picked over by then, weekend cashiers are irked they have to work, or just seem to care less because they are part-time instead of full-time, etc...

    1. With me, it's just that I prefer to not shop then because my husband works nearly every Saturday! :) I arrange my schedule to fit his, and I'd rather shop on one of my days off.
