I think everyone has a friend who blogs. You might read their blog but never mention it to them. It's great when people are supportive of those of us who blog. Not sure how to be supportive, here's some tips:
- Mention their blog posts to them in person. Sometimes it feels to bloggers they are writing to an anonymous world. Let them know you are reading their posts.
- Comment on their blog posts. It's always great to get a friendly comment on a post. Sometimes a blog post can take hours to write and then it's just crickets from the Internet. See one you like? Comment.
- Share the great blog posts they write. There's Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. (I especially like Pinterest -- pins have longer "staying power" than a tweet or Facebook post.)
- Like their social media pages.
- Buy through their affiliate links. Blogging can be free, but it can also get expensive. URLs are not free. If you appreciate their posts, show some support by starting on their blog when you shop at Amazon. It doesn't cost you any more, and they earn a small percentage. Most bloggers are an affiliate to Amazon, but it's not uncommon to find those who are also affiliates to other programs. Most bloggers don't make much money from their blog. The ones you hear about making $100,000 or more a year are the exception rather than the rule!
- If you aren't a blogger, and can think of a topic you would like to read about, mention it to them. It might turn into a great post for them.
Trust me, your blogging friends would appreciate these small gestures!
Thanks so much for writing this. It can be very important for friends to support bloggers however it also has to do with the topic of the blog and if it interest them. I try to accomodate my friends by blogging in two languages.
